I started this painting when I first moved to Portland in June 2022 after my dark water LA paintings which had been about the hope and wonder and good things that take shape in murky places. This one has been on such a journey-- through 5! different studios. At one point there were whales and platypi, algae, an array of fish, a crocodile, and many mountains coming out of the ocean like along the coast near Ubatuba in Brasil. So much life in here.
